Colorization, Special Effects, and Interactive Image Segmentation via Fast Distance Functions

October 24, 2006 3:00pm

Abstract:

In this talk I will show how the fast computation of distances and geodesics can lead to fundamental results in the area of image colorization (adding color to b&w pictures and video), image and video special effects, and interactive image segmentation. I will show how distance functions can be efficiently computed in linear time, and not in O(n log n) as classically derived from Dijkstra's algorithm (or dynamic programming). The presentation of the framework and computational results will come together with numerous examples and demos.
