I have volunteered to administer HYPER for the time being, and I'm looking forward to our first meeting. I have set up a webapp to gather people's scheduling constraints, which seems more tractable to me than collecting a pile of emails. Please go to http://polonium.cs.uchicago.edu:8180/adamshaw/Hyper/hyperSchedule.jsp and fill in your information. Respond soon, and I will schedule our first meeting correspondingly soon. Regards, Adam From adamshaw at cs.uchicago.edu Wed Oct 19 11:11:45 2005 From: adamshaw at cs.uchicago.edu (Adam Shaw) Date: Wed Oct 19 11:00:21 2005 Subject: [Hyper] schedule constraints thus far Message-ID: Greetings all -- I know you're all on the edges of your seats about the HYPER schedule. You can follow the up-to-the-instant schedule survey results at http://polonium.cs.uchicago.edu:8180/adamshaw/Hyper/scheduleTally.jsp Cheers - Adam From adamshaw at cs.uchicago.edu Thu Oct 20 12:23:45 2005 From: adamshaw at cs.uchicago.edu (Adam Shaw) Date: Thu Oct 20 12:12:16 2005 Subject: [Hyper] scheduling Message-ID: Thanks to those of you who have filled in your scheduling constraints for HYPER. We'll let the constraint gatherer gather for the rest of the day (Thursday); tomorrow we'll set a time for the first meeting. There's still time to put in your two cents: http://polonium.cs.uchicago.edu:8180/adamshaw/Hyper/hyperSchedule.jsp Regards -- Adam From adamshaw at cs.uchicago.edu Fri Oct 21 13:12:20 2005 From: adamshaw at cs.uchicago.edu (Adam Shaw) Date: Fri Oct 21 13:00:47 2005 Subject: [Hyper] first hyper meeting Message-ID: Greetings all -- We will hold out first HYPER meeting on Monday, 10/31 at 4 PM, location TBA. My apologies to those of you who are busy then. This is during the block of time most people had in common. We may schedule some meetings at other times to accomodate others' schedules. The paper for the first meeting is on the language CPL (Collection Programming Language), a "principled" database query language. This week's paper is the short paper on CPL: The functional guts of the Kleisli query system Limsoon Wong, SIGPLAN 2000 This paper is availble online at http://portal.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=351241&coll=Portal&dl=GUIDE&CFID=58107561&CFTOKEN=85930260 (The paper does not look good on screen but looks fine when printed.) There is a longer JFP paper corresponding to the SIGPLAN paper, which for interested parties is Kleisli, a functional query system from JFP Jan 2000, available online at http://www.swetswise.com/eAccess/viewToc.do?titleID=112674&yevoID=593927 Regards, Adam P.S. Please send any requests for future papers to me; I will collect them. It develops a language which "is essentially the simply-typed lambda calculus extended by a construct for building records, a construct for decomposing records by field selection, a construct for building sets, a construct for decomposing sets by means of the restriction on structural recursion." (That description is from Wong's short CPL paper (the official one for next Monday)). At present it is entirely spartan. http://hyperpl.cs.uchicago.edu/ If someone would like to maintain the HYPER website, please let me know, as I would be happy to delegate this responsibility to an interested person. The meeting will start at 4:00, and I propose we aim to adjourn at 5:00, although if the discussion has a lot of momentum we can go later. A reminder: The HYPER website, with links to full text of articles as well as bib info, is http://hyperpl.cs.uchicago.edu. Regards, Adam
