From adamshaw at cs.uchicago.edu Mon Mar 6 11:04:12 2006 From: adamshaw at cs.uchicago.edu (Adam Shaw) Date: Mon Mar 6 11:06:22 2006 Subject: [Hyper] HYPER tomorrow Message-ID: Greetings all -- One more Hyper meeting this quarter, tomorrow at 4 PM in the usual place. We will have a second discussion of Tim Sheard's "Putting Curry-Howard to Work." Regards - Adam From jhr at cs.uchicago.edu Mon Mar 6 11:34:56 2006 From: jhr at cs.uchicago.edu (John Reppy) Date: Mon Mar 6 11:36:58 2006 Subject: [Hyper] language and compiler design for multicore architectures Message-ID: I'm organizing a discussion group for the coming quarter to discuss the design and implementation of a language for the multicore architectures. Our initial hypothesis is that the computer of 2012 will be similar to a Cell or Niagra processor (except with many more cores) and that current mainstream languages are not suitable to programming these devices. If you are interested in the topic, please drop me a line. - John From jhr at cs.uchicago.edu Mon Mar 27 09:52:52 2006 From: jhr at cs.uchicago.edu (John Reppy) Date: Mon Mar 27 09:53:54 2006 Subject: [Hyper] Languages and compilers for multicore architectures Message-ID: This message is an open invitation to join a reading/discussion group this quarter that will focus on the problem of language design and implementation for multicore architectures (e.g., IBM's cell processor and Sun's Niagara). What I'd like to achieve for this quarter is a language design sketch that will serve as a framework for ongoing research in this area. I'd like to propose Thursdays at 3pm as the meeting time. We can meet in the Hinds lounge, but if there are too many people for that space, I'll try to reserve either Ry 255 or Ry 153. Please let me know if you are interested. - John From jhr at cs.uchicago.edu Mon Mar 27 11:41:14 2006 From: jhr at cs.uchicago.edu (John Reppy) Date: Mon Mar 27 11:42:15 2006 Subject: [Hyper] Languages and compilers for multicore architectures (2nd attempt) In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: It turns out that Thursday at 3pm is not going to work. Please let me know how the following alternatives work for you: Wednesday at 1pm Thursday at 1pm Thursday at 2pm Thanks. - John On Mar 27, 2006, at 9:52 AM, John Reppy wrote: > This message is an open invitation to join a reading/discussion > group this quarter that will focus on > the problem of language design and implementation for multicore > architectures (e.g., IBM's cell processor > and Sun's Niagara).
