From amal at tti-c.org Fri Oct 19 17:54:22 2007 From: amal at tti-c.org (Amal Ahmed) Date: Fri Oct 19 17:49:47 2007 Subject: [Hyper] meeting time & topics Message-ID: <1192834462.1125@whale.he.net> Hi everyone, For those who weren't at PL lunch today, we agreed to schedule Hyper at 11am on Wednesdays. Unfortunately, Lars has a conflict at that time -- his Big Ideas class meets MWF from 11:30-12:20. It would be nice to be able to accomodate everyone, so I propose that we schedule Hyper for 1:30pm on Tuesdays. If anyone has a conflict or alternative suggestions, let me know. For those who are new to the group, the webpage is at: http://hyperpl.cs.uchicago.edu/. We usually spend about 4 weeks on each topic. Last year we covered: - Linear/substructural type systems - Control flow analysis - Module type systems - Nested data parallelism For those who weren't at PL lunch today, Dave proposed we start off this year with the work on nominal logics/ nominal approaches to binding (FreshML, alphaCaml, etc). If anyone has alternative suggestions for topics, just respond to the list. -Amal From dreyer at tti-c.org Sat Oct 20 16:54:29 2007 From: dreyer at tti-c.org (Derek Dreyer) Date: Sat Oct 20 16:49:42 2007 Subject: [Hyper] meeting time & topics In-Reply-To: <1192834462.1125@whale.he.net> References: <1192834462.1125@whale.he.net> Message-ID: <7fa251b70710201454v7a1693b9ydb8f8830216657bd@mail.gmail.com> Tuesdays at 1:30 is fine by me. Amal e-mailed me asking if I am the one who runs HYPER. To be honest, I'm not sure. (I did at one point.) In any case, since I'm leaving at the end of the year, and will be busy preparing to move, etc., I would like someone else to take the reins, so please volunteer. If someone else is already in charge and knows it, they can ignore this e-mail, and instead arrange for a meeting room for Tuesday. I will announce the exact time and place later today, but it will be around 1:30 in Ryerson. Paper #1 is "FreshML: Programming with Binders Made Simple" by Shinwell et al, ICFP 2003. Paper #2 will be "Nominal Logic: A First Order Theory of Names and Binding", Pitts, from _Information and Computation_. Dave estimates two weeks per paper; we can recalibrate the schedule after Tuesday's meeting. Regards, Adam
