My
research interests broadly include computer vision, machine learning,
pattern recognition and artificial intelligence in
general. I am especially interested in teaching machines to
automatically understand the
semantic content in images, just like humans do. Towards this goal, I
believe it is important for humans and machines to collaborate.
Human
involvement can be leveraged to systematically debug computational
models. Identification of the bottlenecks can help focus future
research endeavors. Moreover, whether we view humans as teachers
training the machines, or as users utilizing the technology, it is
crucial for humans and machines to effectively communicate with each
other. I view visual attributes and properties of images, scenes and
objects as a way to enable this communication, and am interested in
exploiting and enhancing this communication channel.
Apart
from human-machine collaboration, I am also interested in contextual
reasoning for improved image understanding and hierarchical
representations of images.
I
am looking for talented and higly-motivated individuals for short-term
(few months long) research
positions at any level (undergradute, graduate or post-doc).
